Scenic Waterfalls
Diyaluma Falls is the second-highest waterfall in Sri Lanka, cascading from a height of 220 meters. Located near Koslanda in the Badulla District, it offers breathtaking views of the surrounding tea plantations and misty mountains. The waterfall is also famous for its natural pools, where adventurous visitors can swim or relax while enjoying the panoramic scenery.
Ravana Falls, located in Ella, is one of Sri Lanka’s most famous waterfalls, known for its broad curtain of water and mythological connections. According to legend, the falls are associated with King Ravana from the Ramayana epic. Visitors can admire the falls from the base or climb nearby trails to get closer to the cascading streams, making it a popular spot for photography and sightseeing.
Aberdeen Falls, near Ginigathhena in the central highlands, is a picturesque waterfall surrounded by dense forest. Lakshapana Falls, in the Nuwara Eliya District, is a spectacular 200-meter waterfall surrounded by misty forests and tea plantations. Part of the Maskeliya hydroelectric project, it is known for its dramatic drop and natural beauty. Visitors often stop here on their way to Horton Plains or Adam’s Peak to admire the magnificent cascade and the lush scenery.
Bambarakanda Falls is the tallest waterfall in Sri Lanka, standing at 263 meters. Located in the Badulla District, the falls drop straight down a rocky cliff surrounded by thick forest. A visit here is ideal for trekkers and photographers seeking a dramatic and awe-inspiring natural sight.
St. Clair’s Falls, also known as the “Little Niagara of Sri Lanka”, is situated near Nuwara Eliya. The waterfall cascades over 80 meters in two streams, framed by tea plantations and tropical greenery. It is one of the most accessible and picturesque waterfalls in the central highlands.
Devon Falls, near Talawakele, is a 95-meter high waterfall known for its graceful drop and scenic surroundings. Often enveloped in mist, it creates a magical atmosphere, making it a favorite stop for travelers exploring Sri Lanka’s hill country and tea estates.
